Dial-a-Bus is designed to help people who have difficulty using standard buses to have access to local facilities and amenities.  It can be used for:

  • Shopping
  • Visiting Friends
  • Attending Local Clubs
  • Doctor and Health Centre Appointments
  •  Hospital Visiting – but CANNOT be used for hospital appointments

Optometry -Eye Health and Eyesight Problems

An NHS eye examination is funded by the NHS and therefore free of charge to patients.  Eye care for a range of eye problems is also available free of charge at High Street Optician Practices through the Eye Care Ayrshire Service.  These are a  few problems that can be dealt with directly by the Optometrist:

  • Changes to Clarity of Vision
  • Red Eyes
  • Watery or Dry Eyes
  • Itchy or Sticky Eyes
  • Foreign Body e.g. Dust or Grit

Oral and Dental Problems

The Local Dentist can provide advice on a variety of dental or mouth problems e.g.

  • Broken or Painful Teeth
  • Bleeding Gums
  • Ulcers
  • Pain

If you are not registered with a Dentist you can seek advice from a Dental Practice in your area.  Alternatively you can phone NHS Ayrshire & Arran Dental Helpline on: 01563507950 who will signpost you to a dentist in your area who is participating in the Emergency Dental Service Rota.

Voluntary Action South Ayrshire – VASA

VASA provides information for the over 55s on volunteering opportunities and services available in south Ayrshire.  Some examples of these services are:

Older Persons Activities – Strictly Seniors Social Activities aims to provide those over 55 in South Ayrshire with a variety of activities.  Contact Number: 01292437338

Weigh To Go Ayrshire – A 12 week programme for those aged 16 and over with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 25.  Each class consists of 45 minutes of nutritional advice followed by 45 minutes of exercise.  Contact Number: 01292269793
