 Our Practice Nursing staff have undergone considerable training to equip them for the maintenance and promotion of good health and run a variety of Chronic Disease Management and Health Promotion clinics designed for that purpose.

Family Planning and Contraception

All the doctors in the practice offer routine contraceptive services, both during the consulting sessions and at the special times set aside.

Cervical Smears

Regular cervical smears form an important part of preventative care in women above the age of 25. Facilities for this and appropriate follow-up have been undertaken by the practice for many years with conviction and enthusiasm. Well Woman Clinics are carried out by the practice and appointments can be made by contacting the Receptionist on Telephone No. 01465713343.

Child Health Surveillance – Childhood Immunisation Programme

Child Health is of course extremely important, and advice is always available from the Practice. This Practice takes part in Child Health Surveillance. For advice on matters of children’s health the Practice Health Visitor can also be contacted on Telephone Number 01292885501.

Appointments for the childhood vaccination clinic are made by the Child Health Department and you can contact them if you have any queries with regards to appointments on 01294317268.

Minor Surgery

This will be carried out in the Practice. Appointments can be made by contacting the Practice on: 01465713343.

Mrs Sharon Andrew

The services of a dietitian are available by appointment at the Girvan Community Hospital. Referral is by your doctor.

Community Midwife

We offer antenatal care in co-operation with the consultant obstetric unit at the Ayrshire Maternity Unit at Crosshouse Hospital. Our district midwife will advise you about various aspects of pregnancy, including Antenatal Care & Delivery and Parentcraft Classes etc. The antenatal/postnatal clinics are held in the Health Centre on Tuesday afternoon by appointment. The Midwife can be contacted directly on Telephone No. 01465 716461.

Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner – Mr Adam Stewart

Do you have a muscle, bone or joint problem?  Our Physiotherapist is in the Practice on Tuesday mornings and can offer assessment appointments without having to see the Doctor first.  Problems that can be assessed:

  • Sore Necks/Whiplash
  • Sore Backs/Sciatica
  • Joint Pains/Stiffness
  • Sore Knees
  • Muscle Aches
  • Sprained Ankles

This Service is NOT For:

Children <16 years, Pregnant Women, Housebound Patients, Patients with Headaches or requiring fit notes or prescriptions.  Appointments can be made by contacting our Practice Reception Team.

Mental Health Practitioner – Denise Hearton

Denise, our Practice Mental Health Practitioner, supports patients aged 16 to 65 who are not already under the care of the Mental Health Team with their mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing.  Denise runs clinics on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Girvan Community Hospital and she can refer on to appropriate services if required.  Appointments for Denise can be made via our Practice Reception Team without consulting a Doctor first.

Community Links Practitioner – Lynn Anderson

Lynn is here to help improve the health and wellbeing of patients to find groups and services covering a wide range of needs, topics and interests in the Girvan area.  Some services Tracey can help link patients with:

  • Training, volunteering and employment
  • Self-management of health
  • Money and welfare support
  • Local activities and hobby groups
  • Housing issues

Lynn runs clinics at the Girvan Community Hospital – referral can be made by contacting the Practice Reception Team.  Tracey is also happy to accompany patients to activities and groups for the first few sessions if required.

General Practice Clinical Pharmacy Team

Laura Hughes, Sharon Wright & Heather Fergusson

We currently have Laura Hughes, a General Practice Clinical Pharmacist, working in the surgery.  Laura carries out medication reviews within the Practice and also undertakes Health Board directed prescribing projects for the Practice.   Advice on Ayrshire & Arran’s Serial Prescribing Service can be found in the video clip below.
